Responsible for supervising the Payroll Answer Bar Operation Team for decentralized payroll functions. Responsible for the quality and timeliness of responses to employee inquiries. This position is based in Fremont, CA but optional to Draper, UT. Required to be in office every day with frequent multi-site travel. * Supervise team of 7-8 staff member supporting 70K+ employees in a multi-state salaried and hourly payroll ensuring the accuracy of data entry and timely resolution of employee issues. * Oversee process efficiencies, projects, and overtime control. * Assist with the process and review all payroll related interfaces. * System maintenance support including new hire set up, tax form processing, local tax set up, timekeeping input, benefit set up, termination processing, garnishment processing, and verification of employment. * Review the calculation and processing of certain off-cycle manual checks. * Understand state and federal new hire, leave of absence, and termination laws. * Produce audit reports, audit registers, and other reporting inquiries. * Review stop-payment, cancellation, reversal, and other online banking transactions. * Conduct research and analysis to assist the department manager with special projects including government census completion, validation of earnings for compensation projects, W-2/T-4 preparation. * Respond timely to telephone, e-mail, and mail inquiries. * Train new Payroll Answer Bar Specialists according to latest policies and practices. * Prepare Payroll Answer Bar Specialist annual performance reviews. * Develop and mentor direct reports for career development. * Lead team meetings for process and procedure updates. * Liaison between the Payroll Answer Bar Specialists and the Payroll Management Team * Support month end, quarter and year-end activities. * Administration functions include filing, running reports, record keeping, and communication. * Maintain close relationships with HR Business Partners assisting with their payroll inquiries and ensuring personnel data is received timely and accurately. * Interpret payroll policies and procedures to company employees of all levels. * Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. * Prepare metrics and analytics on performance and process. * Bachelor's Degree or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred. * Minimum 4 year's recent hands-on Canada and US payroll experience required. * Supervisory experience required · Knowledge of Ulti Pro and Kronos strongly preferred * High level understanding of systems and how they interface * Exposure to high volume and multi-task work environments a plus * Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills required. * Detail oriented, strong analytical skills, ability to detect inconsistencies in data, and ability to work with minimal supervision. * Ability to meet deadlines. * Some experience with audit procedures, tax, and accounting practices is preferred. * Interpret company policies and procedures in a multi-state payroll environment. * Knowledge of basic mathematics. * Principles of work coordination and planning. * Follow oral and written directions. * Deal tactfully and courteously with the public and other staff when explaining the functions and policies in the Payroll Department. * Maintain confidential information when required by legal or ethical standards and professionalism to ensure privacy of employee records. * Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. * * Please note that job descriptions may be changed at any time to support business changes.
